Perhaps the most striking shade of red in nature; the blossoms of cardinal-flower, Lobelia cardinalis. It is also a favorite nectar source of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. This specimen was photographed along a small stream in Scioto County, Ohio last Saturday.

I was biking along the Kokosing Gap trail Saturday and spotted a large colony of these Cardinal flowers in the wet riparian corridor along the trail. Spectacular!
Beautiful plant! It attracts many Hummingbirds in our gardens.
There's a spot in north west Delaware county ohio a small patch and no more around I found its been over 35 years and they still show up in the same spot!
