I found this caterpillar on O. onobrychis in Will County Illinois in 2018 and took a photo. It's a dead ringer for the ones in this article. I thought it might be S. jaguarina at the time, but wasn't real happy with the identification. This unknown species looks just right.Floyd Catchpolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14993627465741270874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6072479063452233450.post-19640173369509060752023-10-26T13:05:32.652-04:002023-10-26T13:05:32.652-04:00Did I say S. jaguarina caterpillar looked similar,...Did I say S. jaguarina caterpillar looked similar, or did my brain fart? It looks like it might be closely related to Schinia jaguarina, which is what I have been calling specimens I have recorded from southern IN in association with Orbexilum. I'd like to compare my specimens (never seen the larva).

Jim BessJim Besshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17756234143858587201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6072479063452233450.post-53747575171421890462017-08-16T21:02:17.998-04:002017-08-16T21:02:17.998-04:00Insofar as I know the paper formally describing th...Insofar as I know the paper formally describing this species has not yet been published, nor do I know in what journal it will appear. I thought it was supposed to come out sometime this year, but I've just heard snippets through the grapevine. But the caterpillar you shared certainly looks like this new species, which insofar as I know, only uses scurf pea, Orbexilum onobrychis. Once I hear that the paper and official name has been published, I'll probably make another blog entry about it.Jim McCormachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07444322057532066466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6072479063452233450.post-19145822801445169132017-08-10T10:37:57.024-04:002017-08-10T10:37:57.024-04:00Aug. 2017..
